Welcome Dear Reader
What started out as a simple way to check on which foods and drinks you can have on the Slow Carb Diet has slowly transformed into the internet headquarters for all things slow carb lifestyle. It’s been my sincere hope from the start of this site, to provide visitors with helpful information to better support those who’ve chosen the Slow Carb Lifestyle, and this new blog is just another step in this direction. My aim is to provide further useful and meaningful information to encourages and inspire newbies to action and connect on some level with those for whom Slow Carb is already old hat.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with my story, my name is Justin Conley. I’m by no stretch of the imagination a health specialist, dietician or a nutrition expert on any level. I was just another overweight guy who was looking to lose some weight and was lucky enough to have happened upon the slow carb diet early on.
I had just turned the BIG 3-0 (that’s hyped-up speak for thirty 😉 ) and I knew I’d been carrying around way too many extra pounds for far too long. I found myself frequently tired, and way too easily winded by relatively simple tasks like climbing a couple flights of stairs. By virtue of the fact I’d look for the elevator anytime I encountered stairs, I knew something was really wrong. About a week later, on Independence day, I made a one-in-a-lifetime type commitment to myself.
I decided it was no longer alright for me to simply be fat and tired, and to neglect my health any further. I resolved on that day to find a new way forward. I knew without a doubt that it would only get more difficult as time passed and I became older to lose weight and regain my health. It was also clear to me that this time, I needed a plan. I needed something that I would be able stick to.
Like many of you I’m sure, I’d been around the block more than a few times when it came to dieting and exercise. My past was checkered with fad diets and short-lived fitness routines. The common thread to all of these good intentioned (yet failed) endeavors was a lack of “built-in” sustainability. On each of my previous attempts at weight loss, Sure – I’d start out strong, with strong discipline – abiding by a vague calorie or portioned food allowance, – and visting the gym at least 3x a week.
As time went by, the vague nature of the foods I was allowed to have, soon turned into overeating and snacking between “semi-set” meals. The limits of my daily calorie intake soon became the quota for calories I tried to hit each day. Before I’d realized it, having reduced my caloric intake, my energy began to taper off and subsequently my trips to the gym would become less and less frequent. Usually, by about the 3rd month, I was not only no longer visiting the gym but, I’d found that having cut my calories made me so hungry I’d generally come back to eating (the wrong way) with a vengeance – gaining even more weight than I had started with.
The psychological impact of this kind of diet alone is enough to knock out one’s self-confidence. Needless to say, repeating this vicious cycle time after time does a number on your willingness to try anything new – fearing another monumental failure, — or worse further weight gain.
I knew, this time, I couldn’t handle another ride on that psychologically devastating merry-go-round.
Enter The Slow Carb Diet
Finding the slow carb diet was for me, a real life-changer. From the beginning it provided me with a plan that not only worked (a given)- but one that I would easily be able to stick to. It sounds cliche when I hear myself say it aloud (to both friends and family alike) , but not only was slow carb a different way of eating for me, but it presented me with an authentic change in lifestyle.
Far beyond helping me to lose weight and regain my health, it also helped me to prioritize certain other of aspects of my life – many of which I’ll share in future blogs. Also, unlike many of the diets I’d tried and failed with previously, the Slow Carb diet also began to deliver results almost immediately.
I NEVER had to wonder if my efforts were all for not, because by the end of even the first the first week I experienced tangible and measurable results.
A lot of time and a great many things have happened since I started, and yet three very simple and important facts still remain:
1. I’m still on the Slow Carb Diet.
2. I’m still losing weight.
3. I’ve regained and continue to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
For those of you who are already Slow Carb Veterans, I’m sure you can attest to the many benefits of this diet. For those of you just beginning the Slow Carb lifestyle, I can tell you wholeheartedly that the Slow Carb Diet is the best weight loss program I’ve ever encountered, and bar-none, one of the best decisions of my life.
Granted, hearing these words from someone who you don’t yet know and trust won’t likely mean much, – this is something else I hope to remedy in the blogs ahead and with all the other valuable pieces of information I hope to share with you.
So, again, dear reader, welcome! – and please do not hesitate to reach me with any questions or clarifications you may require. After all, as has always been the case, this site, and now this blog, is here to serve as a resource and to provide you with support for your Slow Carb Lifestyle.
Warmly,
Justin
